Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Ride (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the Ride passenger app, the Ride Driver app, or ride-app.us, and what we do with it. Ride is operated from California, United States. Contact us at privacy@ride-app.us.

What we collect

Account details — name, email address, and password (stored only as a hash, never in readable form).
Location — your device's location, to set pickup points, match you with nearby drivers, navigate, and record trip distance. For drivers this includes background location while a trip is active.
Trip data — pickup and drop-off addresses, timestamps, distance, fare, and ratings.
Payment data — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
Messages — chat between rider and driver during a trip, retained for safety and dispute resolution.
Device and log data — IP address, browser or app version, and error logs.

How we use it

To match riders with drivers and complete trips.
To calculate fares and process payments and driver payouts.
To keep riders and drivers safe, including sharing the driver's live location with their rider and verifying pickup with a PIN.
To send receipts, if you choose to give us an email address.
To investigate safety reports, fraud, and payment disputes.

What we share

We do not sell your personal information.

Between rider and driver — your first name, rating, pickup and drop-off, and live location during the trip. Drivers do not see your email, phone number, or payment details.
Stripe — for payments and driver payouts.
Map and routing providers (Mapbox, OpenStreetMap, OSRM) — to display maps, search places, and calculate routes.
Resend — to deliver receipt and quote emails.
Law enforcement — when legally required, or where necessary to prevent serious harm.

Location, specifically

The rider app uses your location only while the app is open. The driver app also collects location in the background, but only while you are online or on a trip — this is what lets your rider watch you approach. Go offline in the app and background collection stops. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings, though most of Ride will not work without it.

How long we keep it

Trip and payment records are retained for seven years to meet tax and accounting obligations. Chat messages are kept for 12 months. Precise location traces beyond what a trip record needs are kept for 90 days.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Account → Delete my account in either app. This removes your name, email, phone number, and saved payment methods, and permanently disables sign-in.

Completed trip and payment records are retained in anonymised form, with nothing linking them back to you, because we are legally required to keep financial records. You cannot delete an account while a trip is in progress.

Your California privacy rights

Ride operates in California, and California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA:

Know — what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, and who we shared it with.
Delete — request deletion of your personal information, subject to the retention obligations described above.
Correct — ask us to fix inaccurate personal information.
Opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Limit use of sensitive information — we use precise location only to provide the service, never to build a profile.
No retaliation — we will not deny service, charge a different price, or give you a lesser experience for exercising these rights.

Email privacy@ride-app.us to make a request. We will verify your identity through your account email and respond within 45 days, as the CCPA requires. You may use an authorised agent.

If you are outside California, you may have comparable rights under your own local law; contact us and we will honour them where they apply.

Regulatory disclosure

Ride-hailing in California is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission. Where the CPUC requires us to report trip, incident, or accessibility data, we provide it in the form the Commission specifies.

Children

Ride is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit with TLS. Passwords are stored hashed. Card details never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify affected users of any breach as required by law.

Changes

We will post any changes on this page and update the date above. Material changes will be notified in the app.
